Ashtamangala
Client: Bangalore International Airport, GVK | Bangalore, Karnataka |2014
The installation conceived by Siddhartha Das Studio. showcases South Indian cultural heritage in the international arrival terminal of the Bangalore International Airport. The work combines two emblematic traditional art forms: Mysore Painting - by the team of MS Anand, with Chola style bronze sculptures of Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu crafted by AS Sambandhamurthy’s workshop.
Ashtamangala installation in the airport refers to the notion of eight auspicious offerings, transformed into eight sculptures in the Chola sculptural tradition. The sculptures are placed in front of a monumental Mysore painting, the most emblematic of painting styles of Karnataka. It is typified by their use of colours in juxtaposition with gold as an embellishment with relief work done in the Gesso style.
